Dyspnea causes and treatment from the chest point of view
Dyspnea (shortness of breath) is a subjective feeling of getting too little air. The cause of dyspnea covers the spectrum from life-threatening illness to somatic reaction to a difficult life situation. In an estimated > 90% of patients, dyspnea is caused by disease in the airways, lungs or cardiovascular system.
In the talk causes will be addressed with special emphasis on lung causes such as pneumonia, asthma, COPD, lung cancer, pneumothorax, pleural effusion and restrictive lung disease but other causes such as Heart/vascular, Toxic/metabolic, Upper respiratory tract, Obesity, ascites and poor fitness, Functional causes (e.g. depression), Neurological (e.g. apoplexy) will be also briefly be considered
